Real Madrid coach thanks Zidane after Club World Cup victory

Real Madrid thrashed Al Ain 4-1 to win their third consecutive Club World Cup.

Santiago Solari won his first trophy as Real Madrid coach after they beat Al Ain 4-1 in the Club World Cup final. Goals from Modric, Llorente, Sergio Ramos and an own goal by Nader ensured a victory for Madrid. Shiotani scored a consolation goal for Al Ain in Abu Dhabi.

With this victory, Real Madrid have now the trophy for the third year in a row. Solari thanked Real’s former coach Zinedine Zidane after their triumph in the UAE.  “We are happy, these players deserve it, they have come here after a lot of work and a lot of wins. We put a finishing touch to that third consecutive Champions League, it is a feat of the club, this group and other coaches. We are also here thanks to Zidane. It will be difficult to match in the future,” the coach told TVE.

Marco Llorente has started to enjoy his campaign under Solari. The Spanish midfielder had struggled to earn paying minutes under Zidane and Lopetegui. He scored a wonderful goal against Al Ain to double Madrid’s lead. Speaking on that, the coach said,

“They are all Madrid players and they all work to be able to do what they do in the field.  Marcos has always worked a lot, and he deserves the credit.” the coach said.

Solari will be hoping his team to deliver fine performances in the league and in Champions League. FC Barcelona are already 8 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table. The defending Champions League winners will have to work relentlessly and hope the leaders to drop points. They have also qualified to the knockout round of Champions League, where they will face Ajax.
